POSIX default prompt for ed(1) (after P command) is an asterisk rather
than a colon. I suppose it makes sense to have a distinct character from
the one used for ex(1).

Now I remember--old Bash prints failure messages to stderr for this
call. That'll be why I was suppressing both streams initially.

Have only translated the scripts that translate readily into POSIX sh
for now. More complex stuff like that bd/pd/sd/ud navigation for Bash
doesn't port as easily, mostly because there isn't an analogue for the
"local" keyword in POSIX.
